How To Select A Computer Desk For Children

By Tony Maronyer

A person needs to keep several things in mind when purchasing a computer desk for children.

It is always a good idea to be accompanied by the child that you are buying the computer desk for to find the best fitting desktop for the child. Read the following tips:

1. One of the most important factors to consider is the height of the child. The feet of the child should be flat on the ground while the elbows should be on the same level with the keyboard panel.

There should be enough room on the desktop for a monitor, notebook or textbooks depending in the intended use. The monitor has to be at the level of the eyes. The desk should be ergonomically and comfortably for the child before deciding on style and color.

2. What kind of things does your child like? Such as music, video games, jewelry and clothing? The desk should fit in with the child's likes and dislikes. The child will be the one sitting at the desk, and therefore should have the most input.

3. Another factor that should play a role is the price and material of the computer desk. The price range can differ by a few thousand Dollars. You should also keep in mind that children will usually damage the computer desk sooner or later.

It is usually a good idea to buy an inexpensive computer desk for younger children and a more expensive version when they grow older. Older children can take better care of the computer desk and those desks do not have to be changed that often anymore.

4. Metal, wood or plastic? You can find computer desks made out of metal, hardwood and plastic. The least expensive type would be those made out of plastic materials, such as the Rubbermaid brand. These are not very durable.

Desks made from Hardwoods, such as oak and walnut, would be very durable and will last a lifetime. Those made from metal, are very durable and can last many years. You will see wear and tear on them sooner than wood, because the finish on the metal could peel off and will look bad after a few years.

5. A computer does need computer supplies like a printer, modem or other accessories that need to be placed on the computer desk. Size makes also a difference if the child uses a laptop or desktop computer.

Computer desks are a huge market as practically every child is growing up with computers these days.

As soon as the child receives a first computer a computer desk should be purchased to introduce the child to ways to properly work with the computer. - 16738
